Expanses and fronts of water / New urban Functions and services for housing.
The concept of the project was based on the idea of connecting the buildings and warehouses in the South of the Arsenale to the waterfront. We wanted to create a new public function for the residents of the surrounding area and have developed a landscape scheme (Linescape) which is a new space in the Arsenale area that can be used in a number of ways with its primary purpose being used for exercise.
We decided to utilise the existing entrance to the Biennale and have created a new ticket office and public square that leads you through the site towards the water. The idea for this new space was based on the strategy of reflecting the facades of the buildings on the ground of the waterfront. In order to achieve this, we developed a grid that was based on the lines of the buildings to form a series of blocks on the ground with some being raised to create spaces which people can use for exercising, for running through or to play and sit on. As well as this, the materials that we chose to use to create our proposal were all materials that have been used in the Arsenale and consist of timber, stone and brick.
