Many places find part of their identity and architectural quality in what remains of stories, tracks, and forms built by obsolete production processes. Various fragments of archaeology and architecture constitute a cultural heritage that the project must be able to interpret and enhance, as well as reactivate and make collective in order to get appropriate regeneration and transformation of those territories today compromise and excluded from what we recognize as landscape.
Within this context of interest the Arsenale of Venice comes as a singular case of extraordinary interest. The history of the Ancient Shipyard, with the economic aspects, political, military, cultural and social, that have determined the events, with the architectural and urbanistic outcomes from them, has been thoroughly investigated and widely written in authoritative publications, particularly in the period that goes from the origins to the Kingdom of Italy.
The vicissitudes of the XX century were instead treated on a lesser extent, therefore today require new thinking and studies through which to find moments of synthesis on some significant issues and the interventions to completion the retraining and reappropriation by the city of the important complex.
The program of the designing will start from the examination of a transformation of great importance for the results obtained over the past thirty years, through projects and interventions, which have affected more than 80 buildings and 200,000 square meters of covered and uncovered area of the Arsenale.
Exhibition of the projects from September 28th to October 11th, 2013.
